Blackboys

The Blackboys Inn, although not in our branch area, must be worth a mention for their sheer audacity in charging £3-30 for Harveys Mild. Splendid pub it may be but there are some 25 members of this branch that will never be visiting again!

Brighton

Hanover, Queens Park Road and its sister pub The Reservoir are selling a range of three local beers usually including Dark Star. The BAD news is that prices seem to start at £3-10 and rise to at least £3-30 for other beers.

Bees Mouth, Western Road is selling Hophead.

Goldfish Bowl, The Greyhound to we more mature drinkers, has Hophead.

Dyke Road Tavern appears to be closed.

A raft of pubs in the City have appears on the market recently. Amongst them are; The Caxton, The Eddy, The Bristol Bar, The Golden Cannon and the Hub.

The Temple Bar in Western Road has a good selection of local Ales on (mainly Dark Star and Arundel) but oh the prices....they range between £3.30 and £3.50 for a pint of Ale. The other drinks were a rip off too, fizzy water or should I say Carling, was £3.40 and Guinness was £3.75. All this with music that was far too loud to be enjoyable.

The Snipe having been closed for a long time is to be converted into flats.

The Cuthbert in Freshfield Road has reopened as Green’s Bar & Restaurant.

Open House in Springfield Road is selling two varying ales at £3-05 per pint.

The Railway in Ditchling Rise is now The Signalman. Three changing beers plus two ciders are available. Prices are not friendly.

The Sir Charles Napier is thriving under Matt’s new management. The guest beers are selling well and are competitively priced against the Fuller’s.

Three recent additions to the real ale scene are as follows;

Watermill is still selling Goddard’s as its guest beer.

The Woolpack has re-opened and is selling Deuchars IPA at £3-00 plus Old Peculier.

Firle

The Ram must surely be the biggest rip off pub in the area. On a recent visit the bar person attempted to charge £7.50 for a pint of Doom Bar (well, about 80% of a pint anyway) plus a small glass of Merlot. Needless to state I declined their offer. Be warned, the more people that are prepared to pay such prices the higher they will get. I now hear that prices have been amended and that Harveys BB and Old are on sale at £2.50 and £2.80. Perhaps someone does read this page after all!

Lindfield

Twins Lou & Jo Creasey have taken over the running of the Stand Up, Lindfield from Daisy Parsons, on Thursday 29th October. Lou is the current cellar manager so there should be no problem with maintaining beer quality.

Newhaven

The Ship is closed.

The Railway Club, near the town station, is selling London Pride plus a guest beer. CAMRA members will be admitted on production of a valid membership card. A beer festival is planned here later in the year. The Engineer is also looking at this idea.

If you have ever wondered what goes on in a pub cellar this is your chance to find out and enjoy ales direct from the stillage from £2-00 a pint plus free nibbles. Two new pumps have been fitted and a Hop Back beer is now available but unfortunately there is still a heavy bias toward Cornish beers.

Rodmell
